Blog Post #4 : Continuous learning
core COMPETENCY spotlight:
Continuous learning
Kai Kristiansen, Commercial Lines Assistant
Continuous learning has been a vital aspect of my work term at Axis Insurance, enabling me to grow both professionally and personally. Throughout the term, three specific learning experiences stood out as particularly impactful.
The first was a seminar hosted by Intact, focusing on their new product offerings for the year. One key takeaway was understanding that even if certain coverages aren’t explicitly listed, we could still reach out to negotiate tailored solutions due to the strong relationship our company has built with them. This insight was important in helping me think more critically about client needs and insurance flexibility.
The second was an internal Q3 2024 CEO Update, which provided a high-level overview of our company’s performance. By delving into costs, income, and future projections, this session gave me a broader understanding of the business side of insurance and how my role fits into the bigger picture. It was interesting to see how all the moving parts of the company come together.
Finally, a seminar from the Applied Epic Team stood out because of how practical it was. Epic is the CRM software we use daily, and this session introduced new features like AI-generated summary emails. Learning about these innovations helped me see how technology is shaping our industry and inspired me to stay ahead of these changes.
Another area of growth has been understanding commercial insurance terminology. Terms like Liability, Aggregate, Non-Owned Auto, and Blanket Coverage used to feel confusing, and I would simply input numbers into forms without fully understanding them. However, after completing training modules from Intact and Wawanesa, I now understand their meanings and implications. This knowledge has improved my ability to identify coverage on certificates and communicate more effectively with my team.
These learning experiences have equipped me with tools that go beyond my current role, laying the foundation for ongoing growth in the insurance industry.
